Playing a rather important role in America's early development Paterson was originally founded as the first planed industrial city, jump-starting the industrial revolution. Paterson is known as the "Silk City" for its international, dominant role in silk production during the latter half of the 19th century. It is the largest city in Passaic County, NJ where it holds the county seat. With a population of 150,000 people, it is the third largest city in New Jersey and has the second-highest density of any U.S. city over 100,000 people, behind only New York City.
